Welcome to Soil Grown Farms!
I believe that healthy soil raises healthy food so the goal of Soil Grown Farms is to provide high-quality, no-nonsense meat that assures you know exactly where and how your food was raised, while also building and maintaining healthy soils by farming with regenerative agriculture practices like rotational grazing.
I raise Cornish Cross Broiler Chickens through their whole lifecycle from arriving in Nanaimo at 3 days old to their life on pasture, processing, bagging and into your hands for a tasty meal!
I built mobile coops we call chicken tractors. Everyday I pull them across the field to fresh grass so the chickens can scratch, peck, forage for bugs and run around while also fertilizing the land with their manure. By giving these chickens a healthy, happy life on pasture instead of trapped in a barn we get a premium product that is delicious, ethical and promotes regeneration of the land.

Who are we?
My name is Sam, and I am currently a part time farmer and full time student athlete. When I am not working on Soil Grown Farms, I am on the Varsity Rowing team and studying Environmental Science at the University of Portland.
Farming is not just a job for me, it is a passion. Starting Soil Grown Farms has been a huge step in pursuing my passion for sustainable, regenerative agriculture.
While at UP, my athletic career helps me build my skills of dedication and hard work, and my pursuit of a degree in Environmental Science strengthens my knowledge about the natural world and the way humans interact with it.
After I graduate, I plan to continue to grow and use these skills moving back to Nanaimo and focusing on growing Soil Grown Farms full time.
